Channel 2 reports that Scott Lee Cowen resigned after meeting with State Democratic Party boss Michael Madigan:

Was Cowen treated fairly?
Hmmm, that puts a diabolical spin on it. I feel sorry for the guy, he's kind of a moneybags sad sack. He's famous now, maybe he can parlay his notoriety into something. I'm glad he made what was probably the wisest choice. As for Madigan, my impression is that he took a hit from this that will linger for quite some time.
Another scenario, Disaffected, is that the plot was borrowed from the movie--Domino. This scenario explains that Speaker Madigan knew of the candidate's "fatal" character flaws & intentionally left Bruce Lee Cohen in the race to retain the right to select the candidate without the interference of Illinois voters.
If the voters chose another of the candidates, so be it. But if voters chose Cohen, then Speaker Madigan & his "club" could make this selection.
Let's see if Art Turner gets the not, Disaffected.
Not or nod? I guess you mean "NOT!" as in "Turner's our candidate...NOT!" Anyway, you reminded me of the movie this Cohen thing reminded me of, "Putney Swope," in which everyone votes for the candidate whom they consider unelectable, thereby electing him.
Well, it's not fair, and it's not right . . . but feeling sorry for Cohen is a little more than I can muster. He made his choices in life and he has to live with the consequences. Consequences are not necessarily punishments; they are the inevitable results of the causes created by our decisions. Losing this candidacy is a consequence of some really bad decisions.
And among Democratic leaders, Madigan is not taking a hit. He may look like an old-timey Irish mob boss to you and me right now, but Democratic leaders will only see that Madigan took care of his business with ruthless aplomb.
Too bad he didn't take care of matters with ruthless aplomb before Illinois was once again an international laughingstock. No, Madigan and Daley are both getting long in the tooth and the bell is starting to toll for them in my opinion. Meanwhile, the next crew waits in the wings.
Turner. Sorry, folks, Madigan will not let his guy get the shaft. And honestly, he got the second-most votes, so it should be an easy argument to make. The only thing more fair than letting the guy in second place have the job would be letting the guy who actually won the election by four times as many votes as Quinn's margin have the job he campaigned for and won fair and square . . . and we can't do that, because Democratic voters are idiots who can't be trusted to pick a candidate for their party.
This is the one that proves it! Journalism is not only NOT the 4th estate anymore in this country but it's officially DEAD.
