Patrick_Boylan's Bio

Patrick Boylan grew up on the West Side of Chicago and still believes the West Side makes the best Italian beef sandwiches anywhere. He spent most of the past 20 years battling the elements everyday, as owner/ manager of a newspaper distributor, and in the employ of one or the other of the city's newspapers. These days, Patrick has reduced his need for a blue recycle bin by getting all of his news on-line for free. Nevertheless, his commitment to develop a hyper-local news site is just a contribution to the crisis facing modern journalism and not the whole answer. His love of Irish traditional music is tempered by the fact that he is a snob about the whole thing: his search for the perfect venue is now limited to small hotel lobbies at 3 AM and farmers kitchens anytime there is a steaming hot cup of tea. He designed his garden with the thought that someday there would be a massive dance there, with musicians playing the Siege of Ennis to entertain the dancers below. Patrick is often seen with a camera and can be found photographing flowers and architecture in the North Center and Lincoln Square neighborhoods. His parkway is covered with tall grasses, butterfly bushes, wine & roses bushes, all centered on a young elm, the first in a generation to be planted on his street. When Patrick has turned to worms and such stuff, he is hoping a child will climb the tree he helped plant, to touch the sky in wonder. His local hockey blog, once at the ChiTownDailyNews.org, is currently featured on ChicagoNow.com. His pictures of food, architecture and gardens will be coming to a blog near you.
