I've spent my career working either for news organizations or for non-profits that care about the news. Currently, I'm president of Vahlberg & Associates, a consulting firm that advises foundations, non-profits, universities and media companies. One of my clients is the Chicago Community Trust, where I am project director for the Trust's new Community News Matters initiative. Previously, I've been managing director of Media Management Center at Northwestern, journalism program director at the McCormick Foundation, executive director of the Society of Professional Journalists, and assistant Washington bureau chief for the Daily Oklahoman.
