Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:53pm. Yes, I'm late this afternoon. Sorry. I had to write down an interview I did this morning. Anyway, it's warm and sunny out. Let's see what that does with crime. Here is crime for this late afternoon and evening.
5:11PM - Disturbance. 3142 N Konster. Elderly male yelling at and taking pictures of the complaint and a friend of theirs.
5:29PM - Suspicious person. 3614 W Wabansia. Male Hispanic, white baseball cap, white tanktop and blue jean shorts and another male in a white t and blue jeans are looking into cars.
5:33PM - Assault. 2830 N Lawndale. Known gangbanger (I've got her name) calls in to say that she's getting threatened by 5 other female gangbangers.
5:49PM - The 5:33pm "vitcim" is calling back. She claims they're still out there.
5:50PM - A call back is being done on the 5:33/5:49pm jobs.
5:58PM - Domestic Battery. Konster and Altgeld. Daughter in-law hit the complaint in the face.
6:19PM - Gang disturbance. 3042 N Hamlin. Male Hispanic in a black jeans and green t-shirt on his cell phone saying he's going to get a gun. Complaint says there's gangbangers very close by.
6:20PM - Beat car 2524 has a bona fide fire at 2251 N Lawndale. Nobody is home at this time.
6:28PM - I have to go eat. I'll be back shortly.
6:32PM - An HR430727 14879.
6:46PM - I'm back and an armed carjacking occurred about 25 minutes ago at 2911 N Meade. You may be asking yourself "what does this have to do with our area?" since this happened around Austin and Diversey, but the offender lives in the neighborhood(s). Wanted from this is male White Polish, 18 yrs old, 5'9, 150 pounds, possible black shirt with a sports jersey who goes by the nickname of "Lu". He resides in the area of Diversey and Kedzie. The vitcim crashed the car into a gate, where then the offender crashed into some parked cars. He fled northbound on Meade, then west on Wellington.
6:48PM - This turns out to be an armed robbery and we've got a bizzare story behind this. The offender was in the car with the alleged vitcim. He was only in the car for a block and a half before he robbed the vitcim. The offender and vitcim were heading somewhere to buy drugs. Vitcim had $400 stolen from him.
6:49PM - The vehicle involved in this is a white Ford Crown Vic. Beat 2542 has the same description of the offender from a traffic accident, hit and run, at Belmont and Newcastle.
6:50PM - The 2251 N Lawndale fire is an Arson. The fire battalion on scene says he found something in three different places and believes it was started intentionally.
6:53PM - The 6:46/6:50pm offender is running southbound on Newcastle, towards Barry. He's got some tattoos on his arms and he has on shorts.
7:08PM - An RD number has been pulled from Belmont and Newcastle. It's HR430800 with the event number of 14835. The call came out at 18:09 (6:09pm) hours.
7:20PM - Information for the police. 3110 N Lawndale. Two pregnant females drinking.
7:27PM - Domestic disturbance. 3722 W Fullerton. At the Dentist office, a family is arguing.
7:38PM - Panic alarm. 3920 W Diversey. Parkside Foods.
7:40PM - I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. Good night, everyone.

The FBI and the CPD provide statistics, yes, but personally, it's not enough. It's probably also not enough for some others who read this blog. Who says there's anything ramdom about these crimes? Sure doesn't see ramdom to me. All too often there are calls along Milwaukee (from Central Park to Belmont) of drunks hanging out, bothering people, fighting, etc. and I've witnessed this in person at least several times. Then you have the gangs. Then you have the people who know each other and commit these crimes on each other.
Sure, citizens are cooperating with the police and are attending the Beat meetings, but really, is that working? No if you ask me. I still see the same bad things that were going on before.
I do this blog because like I said before, our aldermen sure don't seem to care and because the crime rate, especially in Avondale, is starting to get out of control if you ask me. Please know, this is not an all Logan Square based blog. This covers Avondale too.
If you want to see those postive things in the 'hood, go out there and you'll see it. Yes, there are nice people and it's beautiful, but until crime can take a chil pill (and it probably won't until the economy gets better) in the two neighborhoods, I'm blogging. Up until last summer, I wouldn't have done this blog but I felt the neighborhood(s) were really safe, but after that stabbing that occurred on my block, that changed my opinion. Then more things happened that led me to start this blog. Sorry that I do this blog. But I don't see any aldermen addressing the issue, so I'll be the one who does so the residents/readers/citizens (whatever you may want to call them) can see what's going on and they hopefully can have something done about it.
Now, what I want to know is that, what are you really trying to say?
The FBI & Chicago Police Department will gladly provide crime statistics which will put in perspective all of the random reports of violence & mayhem on Chicago's Northwest Side. Ten years ago, my brother rolled down his window before getting out of his car to be sure that random gunfire wasn't within earshot range. Today, these crimes are much more the exception than the rule. Citizens are cooperating with CPD, attending CAPS meetings in their respective beats & working to restore the civility of Logan Square's once properous past.
Covering random crimes reminds me of my days in small market radio news on the "fuzz & was" beat characterized by law enforcement intervention & the occasional homocide.
When one concentrates on this single aspect of community life, it's easy to overlook the charming architecture, pleasant smiles & familia life in one of Chicago's leading gentrified communities.

Logan Square? Humbolt Park? May I invite web log bloggers to distinguish one neighborhood from another even though journalists, bloggers & realtors might prefer to generously included parts of the latter in the former to capture headlines or to increase property values.
With all due respect to one's maternal relationships as the old City News Bureau adage goes, "when your mother says she loves you, check it out."
Konster in my coverage area is Hermosa, not Humboldt Park. I KNOW that it's not Logan Square or Avondale. However, since Beats 2523 and 2524 go to Killbourn (and I like to cover complete beats just in case I miss anything from our neighborhood), I cover it. People should know what their neighborhood boundries are. I know them.
In case you forgot, Logan Square goes from Diversey to the tracks at Bloomingdale, the Chicago river to the railroad tracks just before (south of Fullerton)/after Pulaski. Avondale goes from Diversey to Belmont (railroad tracks)/Addison (east of Pulaski) and the Chicago river to the railroad tracks.
Anywhere south of Bloomingdale I cover (1600 and 1700 blocks) are Humboldt Park and/or West Town.
If people don't know their neighborhood boundries, that's on them. I've already established my coverage boundries here. And I'm not here just to throw out "interesting" headlines. What I put in my headlines is exactly what the first job I hear is about. I'm not doing this blog to promote myself. I'm doing this blog because I'm worried about the crime rate in the neighborhood. I don't know if you know this or not, but the most part of the neighborhood falls within the 30th and 35th wards, which have MUTE (well, Colon has at least acknowledged his citizens) aldermen and they won't do anything about crime, so I'm informing the residents so they can maybe do something about it. Before last summer, I really didn't care about the crime rate, but after that stabbing that occurred on my block, my opinion totally changed.
