What/who are the "lovelys" at 1145 am?
I love your blog, Timmy. I read it when you were on blogspot and followed you over here. I think it's quite informative and I admire your dedication and emotion you put into it.
I live in beat 1912. Do you ever cover 19? I know it's an incredibly slow area and there isn't a whole lot that happens. I have a scanner and at times will listen in on things, but it's very quiet.
The "lovelys" at the 11:45am job are the drunks that are allowed to hang out on Milwaukee at all hours of the day, of course ;-).
Unfortunely, I do not cover 19 because it's on Zone 2 and I already cover three different Zones as it is (Zone 1 for 17, Zone 3 for 14 and Zone 12 for 25, which is my home district). It's also not in our neighborhood (I think your neighborhood is River North or North Center. I'm not sure). I've always had an interest in 19 for some reason though :-). I've listened to Zone 2 a couple of times and it seems to me that the 23rd district gets more action. Since you're probably in the area, how is Beat 1913? I pass by it on Diversey every so often when going to the clinic. But anyway, maybe I can listen to 19 sometime soon. A real close friend of mine lives on Beat 1911. Would you want me to post anything I hear up on the blog or do you want me to send it via email?
Thanks for your comment :-).
Ah, gotcha, Milwaukee is quite an interesting stretch of land...
It's North Center/St. Bens. You would probably be pretty bored covering 19. It's a nice neighborhood that's very safe and there's really not a whole lot happening. The occasional drunk or domestic, a few bums asking for money. There's not a ton of tagging either. It's refreshing. The only perk of listening to it is you get to listen to 23, which has the Wrigleyville bars. Lots of fun drunk calls there, as you can imagine.
1913 is a bit different than 1912. The demographics appear to change quite a bit as you go south on Western from 1912 to 1913. 1913 also had the officer that was shot and killed last year (?) right in front of the police station. There is usually some shady dealings occuring under the overpass around Diversey and Clybourn. However, going south on Damen from 1912 to 1913, nothing really changes all that drastically. 1911 seems to get some action, but nothing spectacular. Mostly dope calls. All in all, 19 and 23 are fairly quiet. There have been those late night mugging calls occuring in 23 lately though. I'm interested to see what's going to happen with that down the line.
Don't go out of your way to listen to 19. I think what you are doing for Logan Square and Avondale are wonderful and your readers enjoy your posts. Your posts help to open people's eyes to what is occuring just in their backyard.
Keep up the excellent work, Timmy...and don't forget to take your breaks!
Yes it is.
I'm glad it's a nice neighborhood where you are :-). It's not like that around where I am. I guess the problem over here in Avondale, namely in the area around Diversey and Pulaski is with all of the drunks and gangbangers. The drunks seem to have control of Milwaukee (Belmont to Central Park) while the gangbangers "control" various blocks. Then sometimes there's the ramdom Assaults and Batteries with a few robbies mixed in. The same stuff occurrs over and over again here in Avondale. Most of the time, the people in these calls for police know each other.
I remember when that officer was killed over there. That was sad, to say the least.
The demographics do appear to be different in comparsion from 1912 to 1913's beats. To be honest, I'm not too surprised that the overpass at Diversey and Clybourn is shady because that area between the river and Damen on Diversey looks rough but at the same time, it seems real quiet.
Besides the drug calls on 11's beat, is there anything else that occurrs on that beat? And I have another friend who lives on Beat 1931. Does anything happen on that beat (if you know)?
Thank you again for your comment :-). My next break will most likely be in October or November (around Thanksgiving).
