Mayor Daley aims, fires and misses.
DAILY JUICE
- Sometime after 11:00am this morning, Daley will be at CPS' public announcement of the expansion of their pre-school program. Location is William F. Finkl Academy at 2332 S. Westerm Ave. which is in the Pilsen neighborhood. Standing around smiling with cute little kids and school administrators is something our Mayor exels at and it's always a good show.
- Sometime after 12:30pm, Daley will be at the Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration held by the CBA. Location is The Standard Club at 320 S. Plymouth. If this sounds to you like a stuffy event with a lot of laywers, then that's because it will be a stuffy event with a lot of lawyers. However, you might be interested to know that if you haven't voted yet, the CBA has some recommendations on judges for you here. Think your vote on judges isn't important? Think again.
SEEN AROUND TOWN
This nugget of information comes to us from an anonymous tipster. "Just passed Mayor Daley standing solo in the Aon center lobby waiting for 2016 mtg and looking slightly bored. Funny little guy."
Yes, the Mayor likes to fly solo and I can personally attest to it. At the opening of McCormick Place West which I attended, there was quite an amusing moment when Daley wandered off on his own, unescorted by anyone on his staff. For a minute there, no one knew where he went. Turns out he just wanted to take a look around on his own.
Dear tipster, we thank you for the intel. But please be advised that there is nothing particularly funny about Mayor Daley unless you feel autocracy is wildly amusing.
SHOOTING BLANKS
Our Mayor has finally commented on the Hudson murders and here's what he had to say. For some alternate opinions, please read the comments below. One in particular stands out as the appropriate response:
"It is NEVER appropriate to push one's well-publicized gun-control agenda riding on the horror of a family's and community's tragic loss. Mourn the loss of fellow Chicagoans and an innocent child and postpone the politics. Shame on you! God bless these souls."
Of course the Illinois State Rifle Association has swiftly issued their response as well.
What's important to think about here is not whether you are for or against the 2nd Amendment. What''s important to think about is whether this was or was not an appropriate time for the Mayor to trot out his anti-gun agenda. Readers, I appeal to your good judgement. What do you think?

The mayor's comment is highly inappropriate but, alas, is the normal political response to tragedy. Trouble is, us voters understand the meaning of "agenda" -- and know no evidence will sway the mayor either way on guns. So his instinct is to turn a murdered child into a talking point. Is it any wonder Americans hate the political class so intently?
Excellent comment Steve! I agree wholeheartedly. Politics is a dirty business and it's very easy to lose all sense of perspective as an elected official. And in an election cycle like this one, regular citizens also often lose that perspective. I think it's something we all have to guard against.
