Mayor Daley continues to elude us. Was it something we said, er, typed?
DALEY NEWS
We continue to not receive the Mayor's schedule of public events. Does his press relations staff also have the flu? If this keeps up, our delicate feelings might be hurt. Never fear dear readers. Tomorrow, the inestimable Adam Verwymeren will be looking into the matter and, I feel sure, will resolve the situation. After all, look how well things went last time.
We do know that the Mayor shared the limelight with Kanye West at a press conference today. WGN has the video here for your viewing enjoyment along with the story. Reminding us that Mayor Daley is accustomed to hobnobbing with rap and R&B stars is this amusing WBEZ blog entry. And you thought Talk Like Shakespeare Day was the dumbest idea the city ever had.
Finally, we've been able to divine that Daley is attending the wake of blues singer Koko Taylor who recently passed away. Hopefully the Mayor won't think he's still at the Kanye press conference and bust out a rendition of Heartless. That would be embarrassing. But seriously now... Ms. Taylor lead an inspirational life and we salute her achievements.
DALEY CHATTER
Mayor Daley puts on the sad puppy routine with regard to the investigation into deals between his nephew's former realty firm and city pension funds:
“While many of you have speculated that I knew of Bob’s business relationship, I did not,” he told reporters. “I found out about it the same way most people did — in the news when the story broke. When I did find out, I made it very clear that it was not a good decision and that he should end the business relationship immediately.
Are you buying what the Mayor is selling?
But wait, there's more tugging at your heartstrings to be done:
"I love my nephew,” Daley said. “It is difficult for me to have my disappointment in him made public. But, as the mayor, dealing with difficult decisions publicly comes with the job.”
