DALEY NEWS
City Hall sent out 1500 pink slips in the mail today, a sign that Daley is serious about firing workers if he can’t wring concessions out of the labor union in the next few hours to close a $25 million-per-month budget deficit. The mayor has been calling for 14 unpaid furlough days for workers this summer, in addition to pay cuts, unpaid holidays and a other cost-saving measures. But the union has repeatedly balked at his demands.
There’s no doubt that it seems Chicago is in a tough economic situation. But Daley has to look no further than his beloved tax increment financing districts to find the cash. As of last year, the city was sitting on $1.28 billion in unspent TIF money. The city has been collecting money faster than it can dream up ways to spend it, so there’s a massive amount of dough sitting in a bank account just begging to be spent. Of course, that wad is likely the mayor’s Olympic walking-around money, so he’s unlikely to part with it. I mean, what do city workers do for us? Clean the streets? Collect trash? Pfffff! Now a two-week international sporting extravaganza, that’s worth blowing all our money on!
DALEY CHATTER
The Tribune attempts to answer the question that was on no one’s mind: What would Mayor Daley tweet? I made it as far as the second graf. Though I’m providing the link, I don’t recommend even reading that far.
For those of you who aren’t looking for a lobotomy with your morning paper, check out a much better question posed by CLTV: Is Mayor Daley too smart for the feds? With so many people being investigated in City Hall, the county board, and the Blagojevich administration, how has the Daley dodged a grand jury investigation into his own shenanigans? My guess? Voodoo and/or black magic. They however speculate it has something to do with a Mafioso code of silence. That was my second guess.
That’s all, folks. Have a great weekend!

Like an idiot I didn't listen and read the entire Twitter piece. And I'm definitely the sorrier for it.
