Mayor Daley is in no hurry to get back to Chicago
DALEY NEWS
Mayor Daley won't be gracing us with his presence for quite some time.
In fact, we are informed in this ABC7 report from Switzerland that after the Mayor leaves the Land of Chocolate, he'll be spending two weeks (two weeks???!!!!) in Amman, Jordan. Why Amman? We presume it's because it's one of Chicago's many sister cities.
DALEY CHATTER
If our city was called anything other than Chicago, we might suspect that Daley is staying away because he isn't keen to come back and face the City Council, as is now the plan.
Mayoral spokeswoman Jackie Heard deftly reversed the prior assertion that Daley had no intention of conferring with the Council in regard to the finacial guarantee he has signed in Switzerland. It is said that the best political speechwriters often adopt the language and thought patterns of their bosses. Whether or not Ms. Heard writes the Mayor's pronouncements, she has definitely picked up his style of convoluted, meaningless prattle:
“This is obviously a complicated matter. It’s a complicated issue. And the aldermen have questions, they have concerns, and for that reason alone there seems to a need to bring this matter before them again, and the mayor has no qualms about that.”
Now let's go back to that ABC7 story. It includes several comedic moments. For instance:
Mayor Richard Daley insists Chicago taxpayers are still getting a good deal.
Will it be as good a deal for Chicago taxpayers as the parking meter sale? Let us begin the celebration immediately!
Then there's the amusing (or highly distressing, depending on how you look at it) outlook displayed by the IOC officials:
...several IOC members say they don't understand why Chicagoans would be worried.
"In sports you always take a certain risk if you want to win. If you don't take any risk, you will for sure not win," said Gian-Franco Kasper, IOC Member, Switzerland.
It's nice that Mr. Kasper views Chicago's political hijinks as a sporting event. Chicagoans, however, are increasingly unwilling to buy a ticket.

It truly amazes me,The main jackasses sent to rep the people are sitting right in front of King Daley and wonder how these give-aways got past them. They certainly don`t sleep their pay raises or anything that affects them personally. And now, after some of the most vital assets the city owns (US) has been "GIVEN-AWAY" in every sense of the word. You clowns want to consider an ordinance to call a vote on any other important give-aways. We don`t have anything of real value left, sans our Skyline.Oh I had better shut-up this may give these dunder-heads an idea. What a joke ??
Good point. The Aldermen are almost equally culpable and they aren't exactly dilligent about pointing that out.
