About this blog

In It for The Long Run is for runners of all abilities and goals.  It will explore the Chicago area and provide information about training, local races, running stores, and other things of interest to most runners.

Occasionally, I may provide some fun running anecdotes.  If you’re a runner you know what I mean.  Maybe I’ll tell you about the time I found a domestic rabbit while running in the woods and spent more than an hour catching it, or about the time a deer ran into me, literally.

Fit for office? Obama's workout routine

 The White House

The fitness routines of American presidents have always been under scrutiny. Bill Clinton used to jog around the White House, happily waving to reporters. It’s said that George W. Bush runs 3.5 miles on a daily basis (sometimes on a treadmill while traveling on Air Force One) and takes frequent, long bike rides. There is even a book out on a fitness plan inspired by W…and it apparently has walking, jogging and running programs to follow.

But what about Obama?

His fitness routine may be the most extensive thus far. At the gym, Obama frequently lifts weights, rides the stationary bike, hops on the elliptical and still manages a little treadmill time, according to witnesses and his different training buddies. And of course, our soon to be president loves a game of pick-up basketball.

An article in Men’s Health magazine details out Obama’s morning workout schedule. He visits a fitness center six times a week for a 45-minute workout, alternating two days of cardio with four days of weights. When warming up on the treadmill, he listens to his iPod or reads the newspaper. He has said he would prefer a longer 90-minute workout routine.

David Paul Kuhn, of Politico, happened to be in the same gym as Obama and creepily, yet thoroughly, documented Obama’s specific workout routine.

But will Obama still be able to make time for his strenuous workouts after taking office tomorrow? Only time will tell…it’s also said that the president-elect enjoys snacking on sea-salt caramels in milk chocolate and Planters trail mix.

It is difficult to have changes in routines but for big causes we have to do that. I think he and his team can adjust very well.

Thanks for this wonderful piece of information information. However i tend to gain weight when i workout. Guess, it works for the president positively.
