Steve Jobs Posts Letter to the Apple Community on His Health

Guess an Apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away, huh? This morning, on the eve of Apple’s Macworld, Steve Jobs released a short letter to the Apple community describing the health problems responsible for his ever thinning appearance for the last few months. This is a look into Steve’s private life that he rarely offers, and we suspect that he is sharing these private details because of his love for Apple and its concerned users in an effort to set the record straight so that we can all “enjoy the show tomorrow”

St. Jobs said that this year, he has decided to “spend the holiday season with [his] family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.” Jobs hasn’t been absent from the Macworld keynote in over ten years, and is considered by many to be the world’s most superlative. And Jobs once again gave us hope that he would continue his post at the helm of Apple for the foreseeable future stating “I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery”. The recovery, Jobs says, is treatment for a hormonal imbalance that is causing his body to lose weight. He also says that the weight should be put on in time for WWDC09.

We’re hoping that this puts the rumor mill behind Jobs’ absence to bed. I mean, come on people, Steve will be the first to tell us if something has gone horribly wrong. You can read the full letter here.

Our personal opinion here at Tech Loop is that the whole issue of Jobs' health was blown WAY out of proportion in the first place. Is it really that big of a deal that the tech-world's savior wants to spend some time with his family over the holidays? Sure, a Schillernote will never be a exciting as a Jobsnote, but the real excitement is in Apple's products; of which, Steve is still a very big part of. And, even if Jobs did happen to become gravely ill, Apple's board and top execs would surely pick a next of kin that would carry on Steve's legacy....ehh, ehhmm Johnny Ive. But, for Apple to say that they "no longer had an interest in Macworld" is absurd - we can't see a good reason that Apple would want to stop doing Macworld because a simple keynote presentation generates as much, if not more, buzz than any multi-million dollar ad campaign. We are confident that Jobs still has many, many years of guidance left in him.

The recent news of Jobs and his health is not good for those who look forward to the future of Apple. Though it was going to happen one day, since he would have to retire eventually. But he is such a huge part of Apple it will be hard for them to be what they are with him at the helm.
